Role Overview

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) II provides direct patient care and support in an inpatient psychiatric setting.

They serve as a key member of the treatment team, facilitating communication between patients and staff to implement individualized treatment plans.

Under supervision, they monitor and report patient activities, ensure safety, and assist with daily patient needs.

Responsibilities

• Encourage patient participation in treatment activities and monitor engagement.
• Assist patients during breaks, medication times, and with communication devices.
• Support nursing staff with medication administration and patient supervision.
• Conduct safety monitoring, including observation levels and surveillance rounds.
• Perform intake, discharge procedures, and manage patient belongings.
• Document shift notes, patient observations, and safety checks accurately in EMR.
• Report safety concerns, patient issues, and maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and regulatory standards.
• Participate in performance improvement activities to enhance care quality.
  
  

Qualifications & Skills

• Must be a licensed QMA, EMT, or Paramedic; high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in mental health or healthcare is desirable.
• Ability to learn quickly, communicate effectively, and maintain professional boundaries.
• Flexible schedule, including availability for holidays and weekends.
• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation required.
• Completion of CPR and HWC within first week of orientation.
