Role Overview

Validates Acute Inpatient coded charts to ensure diagnostic information is accurately supported by Medical Record documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Leverages clinical expertise to identify and validate DRG code assignments.
• Conducts comprehensive reviews of CDI suggested code changes.
• Performs coding audits to optimize accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.
• Reviews Medicare and non-Medicare charts to ensure adherence to federal and state standards.
• Applies coding rules during validation reviews and communicates DRG adjustments and rationale to staff.
• Identifies necessary coding changes to improve documentation validity.
• Operates independently, interpreting varied work assignments and making informed decisions.
• Reviews reassignments accurately and promptly.
• Performs related duties as needed, with all functions considered essential under ADA.
  
  

Qualifications & Skills

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing School with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent experience.
• Current Registered Nurse license in the relevant state, with specialized certifications as required.
• ICD coding experience is highly preferred.
• Inpatient acute rehab experience is preferred.
