Position Overview
This role is based on a fast-paced orthopedics and urology surgical unit with 41 beds, specializing in acute surgical care, trauma, and low acuity medical patients. The unit emphasizes teamwork, patient safety, and efficient recovery, with resources including educators, supervisors, and management. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6, and staff collaborate closely with therapy teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
This role is based on a fast-paced orthopedics and urology surgical unit with 41 beds, specializing in acute surgical care, trauma, and low acuity medical patients. The unit emphasizes teamwork, patient safety, and efficient recovery, with resources including educators, supervisors, and management. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6, and staff collaborate closely with therapy teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Administer medications, including IV piggybacks and fluids, and perform dressing, trach, NG tube, and ostomy care.
- Chart assessments, update care plans, and communicate with physicians/APPs for orders and care coordination.
- Reinforce discharge instructions and patient education.
- Assist with various nursing skills and operate medical equipment such as wound vacs, chest tubes, and telemetry monitors.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed in Illinois.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days.
- Previous nursing experience preferred.
- Strong communication, documentation, and patient care skills.
